Reliance mostly recruits from college campus interviews, individual openings do crop up every now and then, for freshers as well as for those with 1 to 10 yr experience. For these, they invite people for interviews from their existing database of resumes. The best option would be to drop an updated resume to the respective HR office, and they would call whenever there is a requirement with matching credentials.

I have been placed in Reliance Industries Limited as a graduate engineering trainee. What are the things that I need to learn before joining? How are the growth opportunities over there? Should I plan for the long term or short term?

You have been placed in RIL. Congratulations mate!! I have been working in the industry for the last 2.5 years and have learned quite a few things. What you need to learn before joining is to 'learn' the location where you will be placed(means which Manufacturing Division you will be joining). Because the location will be the deciding factor whether you will be enjoying your GET days or getting toiled for petty jobs like bolt tightening.

FOR SHORT TERM

There is no need to come prepared for practically anything. Yes. You read this right. No need to take load bro!! You will be GET for the first year. Will be given classroom training for almost half a year. Then you will be asked to prepare a project which you will be presenting for your valuation at year-end. The HR is 'instructed' to confirm GET to Manager position.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO PREPARE FOR EXAMS LIKE GATE GRE IELTS----> YOU HAVE LANDED IN HEAVEN. YOU WILL GET AMPLE TIME TO PREPARE FOR THEM. AND BEST OF ALL------> YOU WILL BE GETTING PAID FOR IT.

Because we are not supposed to hand over tasks to GETs during their training days. So all that's left for GETs, apart from getting bored from CRT & WBT, is to complete their daily quota of watching movies, a nice TV series, or preparing for exams.

FOR THE LONG TERM:

If you are seriously into the job. Apart from CRT and WBTs concentrate on job training.

Know about pumps, exchangers, column vessels safety valves, pipe valves fabrication, etc for mechanical engineers.

But do know this: the more you handle the jobs, the more your line managers will grind you. If you think that hard work will help you climb the success ladder, I am sorry to confess this but you are wrong. RIL has a YES-BOSS kind of culture. The more you lick the more you get stars in your yearly performance index. If you want to get ground for the sole purpose of learning and do not care about yearly increments then RIL is best for you. You will get exposed to software like SAP, MEDIUM, PROJECT PLANNING, etc. You will literally be handling responsibilities one post ahead of your current position.
